Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science, a non-profit, world-class astronomical institution in Pasadena, California, invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position working with the Carnegie-LCO Galaxies at the Highest Redshift Project (CGHR) to begin September 1, 2019, or earlier. This is a fulltime position based at the Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) in Chile.

Position Description:

The Carnegie-LCO Galaxies at the Highest Redshifts project (CGHR) and the LAGER (Lyman Alpha Galaxies in Epoch of Reionization) collaboration have an opening for a postdoctoral position. The CGHR project exploits data from the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) program to select and study galaxies at z ~ 10, and the “LAGER” project is the largest narrow- band (NB964, DECam) survey for Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs) at z ~ 7, over a large area. Both projects involve follow up spectroscopy, data analysis and modeling.

This appointment will be for two years with a possible third year extension based on performance and funding availability. Education Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in astronomy or physics

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous observational experience in low signal to noise Optical and NIR imaging and spectroscopy are highly desirable.
