Postdoc in Astronomical Instrumentation for the Local Volume Mapper Instrument

The Postdoctoral Research Associates will work with Dr. Nick Konidaris and Dr. Juna Kollmeier on developing instrumentation for the Local Volume Mapper Survey as part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V program. In addition to their work with these projects, the Postdoctoral Research Associates can apply to PI their own independent projects utilizing Carnegie’s observational facilities including the twin 6.5-meter Magellan telescopes, the 2.5-meter Dupont and 1.0-meter Swope telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory, Chile. 

Carnegie is also a full institutional member of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV and V. Furthermore, Carnegie has a vibrant instrumentation community and we will develop and build instruments for all of the aforementioned facilities, as well as the Giant Magellan Telescope.

The appointment will be for two years, with a possible third year extension based on performance and funding availability.  Previous experience developing hardware or low-level instrumentation software is required. The successful applicant must have completed the Ph.D. requirements before assuming the position.
